Billy Glynn, President of Connacht Branch, praised the club for its achievements
during the year, and especially the great sucesses over Ulster champions
Coleraine and Munster champions Bruff in the A.I.L. round-robin qualifiers.
In fact he said that with a different order of fixtures, Connemara RFC
would be participating in the A.I.L.3rd Division next season instead of
Naas RFC. He also announced that 2 Connemara players would be invited
for trials for the Connacht Seniors XV, a great honour for the club.
Minister Fahy congratulated the club on its fine season and was delighted
to be able to announce that the club was to receive a substantial grant
from the Dept. of Tourism, Sport and Recreation for pitch development.
Galway Bay FM reporter Ralph O'Gorman gave a very spirited and humourous
address in which he outlined the achievements of Connemara RFC over the
last 26 years. His address was so entertaining that he received a standing
ovation at the end!
Pat O'Toole, captain of Connemara RFC, thanked the players for their
efforts over the year and also welcomed the beginning of ladies rugby
at the club. The players involved in the achievements were presented with
medals by Billy Glynn following the meal and the night concluded with
a disco into the early hours.
